Thousands of National Guard members and future veterans could become eligible for full federal veterans benefits under new legislation introduced in Congress this month.
The bill, H.R. 8281, also known as the Guard Equal Benefits for Federal Missions Act, would change how certain National Guard deployments are classified for benefit purposes, potentially unlocking VA health care, education benefits, retirement credit and higher pay that some Guard members currently miss out on.
