The basic allowance for housing rates will increase by 5.4% on average in
2025, the Defense Department announced Dec. 13. The BAH is paid to active-duty service
members stationed in the United States when government housing is not available. DoD will pay
approximately $29.2 billion in BAH to about 1 million service members in 2025. The new rates
go into effect Jan. 1. BAH is available to some National Guardsmen – for example, Guardsmen
who are on active duty under Title 10 for 30 days or less.
