WHAT IS THE NGASC?

As a 501 (c) (19)  the  NGASC is the professional voice of active drilling and retired South Carolina Air and Army National Guard members. We serve as the local arm of the National Guard Association of the United States to represent and protect the interest of our nation’s defense and South Carolina Citizen Soldiers. NGASC seeks to provide a strong, united voice from which the needs of the Guard can be heard. Our organization is not military; we are instead an organization of military people dedicated to a strong national defense. Today we continue to deliver what we promised from the beginning – representation of our citizen soldiers to maintain the Guard as an effective national defense element and state emergency asset.

NGASC was formed for the purpose of:

  • Promoting the welfare of National Guard personnel
  • Promoting and supporting national security
  • Fostering and improving the National Guard of South Carolina and the National Guard of the United States as a component of the Armed forces of the United States
  • Preserving and perpetuating the history and traditions of the National Guard of South Carolina

In today’s environment, the role of both the Army and Air National Guard has never been more important. The National Guard offers the most cost-effective alternative for the defense dollar. With this added responsibility comes the need for more resources from the Congress and Department of Defense. NGASC is committed to fighting for these resources.

Strategic Priorities

Next Generation Fighter Jets
The SCANG must maintain its Warfighting relevance. This has a direct impact on recruiting,
retaining, and training Airmen.

Protection and Preservation of McEntire Joint National Guard Base
McEntire Joint National Guard Base provides a unique training and power projection
platform for both the Army and Air Guard. Because there is no commercial presence on the base,
the SCNG can exercise great flexibility and autonomy, without external restrictions, for both
operational exercises and training..

Brigade Combat Team (BCT)
The BCT is the basic building block for Brigade combat operations in the Army. Training and  resources are provided to the BCT that complement the SCARNG’s Federal and State missions. SC  had a BCTand lost that designation in 2009. Although we have retained the majority of its  component parts, we have lost the training opportunities and resources that come along with the  Headquarters designation. Just as with Next Generation Fighter Jets, a BCT allows the SCNG to  maintain its Warfighter relevance. It is also notable that South Carolina is the only hurricane state  that does not have a BCT.
