Senate Confirms Esper as Defense Secretary
The Senate on July 23 confirmed Mark Esper to be the next secretary of defense, by a vote of 90-8. Esper could be sworn in as the Pentagon’s new leader as early as this evening. He largely sailed through the Senate confirmation process, concluding his Senate Armed Services Committee hearing and interviews just one day after his name was officially submitted to the Senate.
