Air Force Lt. Gen. Steven S. Nordhaus was officially promoted to the rank of general Oct. 2 and assumed the duties of the chief of the National Guard Bureau, according to an NGB release from the same day. A ceremonial assumption of responsibility is planned for later in the month. Nordhaus was confirmed by the Senate in September to serve as the National Guard’s most senior officer and as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He appointed Army Lt. Gen. Jonathan M. Stubbs to serve as NGB’s acting vice chief. Stubbs had served as NGB’s acting chief since Aug. 5.
